Harriet Smith

Harriet Smith (Jones)

Harriet Smith, born Harriet Jones around 1861 in rural Pennsylvania, was the wife of James Smith. They met in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she had moved with her family, and married in 1884. Together they settled near Toronto, Canada, where Harriet supported James as he worked as a carpenter and raised their four children: Thomas, Ellen, Samuel, and Margaret.

She was known to be practical, kind, and dependable, often managing the household while James built up his trade. Harriet lived a long life by his side and was with him when he passed away in 1923. She continued to be a central figure in the family, remembered for her quiet strength and steady presence.
